My Favorite Writing Habits and Approaches

Posted on Aug 3rd, 2009 by dani : explorer - love, life, truth dani
Thesis-paper

These are my treasured ideas for people who enjoy writing and/or journaling:
Writing is best when it is lived. Just as is any passion that we feel in our heart. It is a lifestyle, a being. Become it through your practice.

To develop your writing and/or passion, first make your presence with it a priority.

It is simple. Make time and space for it.

But reconsider which time and space works best.

Time
Find the ideal pocket of time in your usual routine. Whether you develop a little bit of it daily or focus on it once every week, find the spot that is just right. One that flows with your energy.

Use this as a "rock" in your flow. Allow other things to move around it; keep it your priority.

I prefer mornings when the energy is fresh and it is more likely to be nice and quiet so that I can really be with my self and am not as easily distracted.

Space
Set up a space customized for developing your passion. One that is attractive to you and draws you in. Place all the essential tools customized for you and this project within easy reach. Make it so that it prompts your creative flow and feels great to be in.

Visit it every day, a few times. Even if just for a check in. Allow it to serve as a keystone to always keep you connected.

Showtime!
When you actually get into that pocket of space and time in which you are really writing, keep these approaches in mind. First tune into what type of mood you're in or what you're feeling and identify which you'd like to do.

Journaling/Creative: If you feel inspired and have thoughts to spew, jot them down in a handwritten journal and allow it to flow. Don't think twice about spelling errors or punctuation. You can perfect it later. Just focus on getting to what you are feeling and getting it out on the paper.

Reviewing/Filling In: If you are not so inspired to write about any particular thing, flip through some old notes. If you don't have any now, you will have TONS very soon if you really like to write. Keep all notes you write randomly with any type of inspiration in them and then reference them at these times. I have folders full. You can fill in past things you've started or further outline them. Take what you've written in the past a little farther. Usually it brings me right into the flow.

Editing/Refining: This is the final version of your writing. Go through it all once again and see if anything else arises to be added or if any parts are no longer needed. Make sure that the overall structure is best and that it also flows well.

A great way to naturally prompt your writing to actually getting to this stage is by posting them to a blog. That also allows others to enjoy your writing, if interested.

Whatever your preference, collect your final drafts in one place that is well organized and easily findable.

Would love to hear your tricks and tips. Have fun writing. :)

Recipe for a Nourishing Bath

Posted on Jun 24th, 2009 by dani : explorer - love, life, truth dani

For the times when it seems the world has gone astray, or just after a tough day, a bath is a wonderful nourishing space to retreat.

When my shower head broke this winter, I was forced to take baths daily for a bit. This "problem" ended up being a wonderful blessing in disguise.

Taking a bath in the morning, even if 10 minutes long, feels great! When we pause and submerge in water, it a provides a feel-great and clear space to connect all around. The best thing is that most of us already have one in our homes.

Here are some tips for creating a bath retreat that relaxes
and renews:
  1. Add a box of baking soda. The minerals in it condition the water to make it softer and naturally more cleansing.
  2. Play with temperature. Sometimes a hot bath feels like it hits the spot, sometimes a cool one does.
  3. Add some flower petals to dress up the bath while making it feel rich and sensual. You can grab some from outside and rinse them off.
  4. Add a few drops of essential oils after the bath is drawn for aromatherapy.
  5. Light some incense in the bathroom if desired to invoke relaxation and connection.
  6. Add some candles and play with the lighting.
  7. Play some light music, listen to what feels right.
  8. Have some bath crayons near to capture your insights.
So give it a try when you feel like having a moment to yourself. Once a week is an easy start. Sundays are usually ideal.

I would love to hear your favorites.

Organization Session: A Weekly Check-In Practice for Optimal Deve

Posted on Jun 2nd, 2009 by dani : explorer - love, life, truth dani

“The secret of success is found in your daily routine.”

~John Maxwell

Many of us have explored our daily routines to some extent. We have played around and tried all kinds of ways of approaching our days and have found what works for us, or at least what we are comfortable with. However, not many explore beyond day-to-day planning. By additionally reviewing our lives from a weekly perspective, we can allow a greater level of experience to thrive in the ways most meaningful to us.

Opening up to this weekly review of your whole being naturally allows greater levels of flow. Creating a space to prioritize your actions in alignment with your goals helps you to continuously develop yourself more quickly. Having a structure you can trust to process all of the details allows a natural ease of anxiety and therefore more presence in your daily being. Taking this time out allows you to see opportunities that you may have otherwise not been aware of.

Most people I know put caring for themselves last on their priority list. I did it for a long time until I was forced to change through painful circumstances. When we haven’t done it for ourselves, a painful problem often arises, giving us the opportunity.

Creating a weekly retreat gives yourself a delightful space to reconnect, review, and readjust, where necessary. It is a big picture look in which you set up the blueprint for your week. This frees you up so that you can relax into it and trust that you have already implemented the wishes of your highest self. Everything works more beautifully as you get better at being more aware of what you want while setting up your time.

Each Sunday I reserve a time and space to myself in which I retreat into my Weekly Organization Session. This is my most treasured part of the week. It’s my time to connect, sync, and refresh. It is a renewal from the inside out. Many of my biggest breakthroughs are born in this session with myself. At times I have entered it feeling like things were out of control. By the time I am finished, I always feel like everything is moving along beautifully. This is when I naturally make peace with everything going on. It is the foundation of my organization and the overall most valuable thing I do for myself. It’s the one thing that I always do, because I want to. Afterwards I am grounded, clear, and ready for my week.

Key things to remember during your Organization Session:

1. Implement life into your schedule. Schedule everything in pencil to leave opportunity to move things around as you get closer to each day. First start with scheduling the things that are already scheduled or hard to move, such as work, appointments, practices, studying, etc. Be open to the optimal place for each thing. When you consciously choose where to put things, you can align several things together by location, type, or preference. Next add things that you most want to accomplish and move you toward your goals. Continue with adding time for your most important and treasured relationships, including a spiritual one (if desired), and time for you to do what you want.

2. Go through your inboxes. Connect with everything that is going on. Make sure things are moving forward. Is there anything that you can simply let go of? Spend some time checking in on different areas and see which rise as needing attention this week. Implement their associated tasks into your schedule to keep them moving forward.

3. Be open. Not everything goes as planned. However, having a template allows the smaller things to flow around the more important items while creating a consistent movement forward. Go with the flow and do what feels most right to you, don’t be too stuck on your schedule. Stay aware of what works and what doesn’t. Find pockets of time in which you can use in different ways. Learn your preference on the load of things you allow in your life.

4. Integrate change. Apply change where you see opportunities. Refine your development as you become aware. Keeping this weekly appointment facilitates a gentle awareness and the space to continually develop on what you learn.

5. Have fun. Enjoy the journey of it all. We all have a lot going on. Time and creation are getting faster and faster. We have to be more selective about what makes it into our lives or we may just let it pass by without much realization of it. Ensure your fun, growth, and clarity. Make the things that matter most to you a top priority. Treat yourself to a weekly check in.Keep refreshing on these tips and others out there, find what works best, and enjoy the development of it.

What habits do you have that work best for you?

How do you develop everything that is important to you?

A Fresh Start: Organize Your Work Space

A Fresh Start: Organize Your Work Space

Having your creative work space set up is foundational to being productive on greater levels. When certain conditions are present, you can become more attracted to the space and drawn there naturally. It also allows greater accomplishment as you are able to focus on your magic with all your tools at hand.

Here are some step-by-step tips I've found that help me be my best:

Totally Reorganize/Pre-Organize.

Clear out your old stuff to create space.

To get started, freshen up your area. Schedule an evening or weekend to box old files or shred them. Simplify and let go of what you don’t need and haven’t looked at for years. Only keep current files in one central box or cabinet that is easily accessible and near your workspace. Think bigger than you ever have before. Create a tornado effect followed by the world’s best clean up/restructuring crew.

“Next to the dog, the wastebasket is your best friend.”

~B.C. Forbes

Set up your master work space.

Put everything that you need to use daily within arms reach.

Make it so that you don’t need to get up too often or interrupt your work flow. Things that you use weekly or less often can be a little farther out. Leave them out of eye range to create a feeling of spaciousness and reduce eye clutter.

Organize your work flow system.

Move in to an organized system that allows you to be fully productive and aware of where everything is. Ditch the system that only you can figure out.

Have these four boxes or slots be on your desk or within reach:

Top: Inbox.

Everything that comes in goes directly in here. Empty it out at least once a day. From your inbox, things can transfer to one of the other files. Do not leave anything in your inbox. (It can be done!) Once you’ve touched it, don’t put it back. At least move it to one of the boxes mentioned below. The same should be done for all types of messages that come in including voice mails.

Second: Processing.

This is just like what you are using your inbox for right now. Have one processing file on your desk for things you will work on this week. Anything that isn't on the schedule for this week should be moved down to one of the other boxes.

Only things you need today should be on your desk. Keep your desk free from clutter and excess. A clear mind allows more focus. Review your processing file and reschedule associated activities during your Organization Session on Sunday or Monday each week.

Third: Org Sesh.

Put items in here that you do not need to look at during this week. Sit down once a week during your Organization Session and go through this box to keep in touch with all that's going on. Take time out once a week to schedule these activities – rather than taking time out each day to reorganize. It is much more efficient and frees you up to trust things will be handled and will all fit in.

Bottom: Follow Up.

These are items that are not urgent but that should be followed up on next month. On the first Organization Session of each month, go through this box.

Additional Spaces to Set Up to Facilitate Your Flow:

Reading Nooks.

Keep a SMALL collection of things you want to read in areas around your living spaces that prompt you to pause and read. Create reading nooks that are physical reminders each day to sit and read. Make each a fun place to visit. Areas to place selected reading material include: the bathroom, kitchen table, couch area, near your bed, etc. If the reading material keeps growing and you never read them, move some to a library or forward to friends (circulate). If you have too many, you will never start reading. Prioritize!

A "To Be Filed" File.

In your file cabinet, create a first file that is “To File”. Once a quarter or so file its contents and empty it out. Don’t let things gather here too long. An organized file cabinet is most beneficial. This will strengthen the core of your foundation. Sorting your physical work helps clear these things from your subconscious also, clearing your mind. This can provide incredible amounts of healing and closure. Get blank folders, make new files, organize them by groups and colors, and get very involved. This is very representative of where you are at with your work. A dependable and creative system will support the success of your work.

Cornerstone.

Create a place to retreat to that is nourishing. Ideally you should have a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual healing center in your home. These should be spaces that are inviting to visit and prompt your attention to yourself. A great start is an altar that you may retreat to for solace and rest breaks for nourishment and connection.

For more wonderful inspiration on design, I recommend any of the books on Vastu Living written by Kathleen Cox. Her talent is to create interior environments that appeal to us visually and viscerally—they appeal to the mind, body, and soul through applying ancient wisdom.

Thoughts on Perfection

Posted on Feb 1st, 2009 by dani : explorer - love, life, truth dani

Thoughts on Perfection

Perfection in Every Moment

Everyone is around you for some reason.  From the person behind you in line to your mother-in-law.  If you are open, you can find a lesson in anything.  And as a bonus, you can find the value of these relationships that bother you.  Those ones that irritate you the most.  Maybe so much that you can release the need for them to be.  We can make the most of all of our relationships with some basic understanding.  Relationships are the keys to growth. They are temples of today.

Each moment in itself is Perfect.  Aspects are set up exactly to mirror your patterns to you.  You are in each situation in order to learn something that you have not mastered yet.  If you become conscious of this, you feel more in sync with your life by realizing the opportunities within it.  You lose the "victim" of circumstances attitude and live up to your optimal part in the play of it all.  In letting go of the desire to control life, we free up to dance with the flow of our experience.  As we develop these tools within ourselves, we can let it be and let the answers come to us, naturally.

So take any random moment today and sit back and observe for a second.  Become aware.  What is the opportunity in this situation?  What can I learn here?  Look at all of the things in your view at the moment you think of these questions.  Sometimes its very funny to see the obvious "signs" in your view.  Many times if we could just lift the veil before our eyes and change our perspective, so much more is obvious in the same situation.   Its like when you watch a movie that you used to watch when you were younger, and you can see whole other levels that were there that you used to be unaware of.

What is your definition of Perfection?

Many of us have a rather funny definition of perfection.  The mass definition of perfection tends  to be "beautiful without flaw".  This may be things such as being smart, rich, powerful, spiritual, fun, etc.  Of course we'd all like to be these things, but many of us need pain as our fuel to continue to grow, and therefore, lack in some of these areas.  The pains of not having what we want can be one of our greatest teachers in life.

If we change our perspective, and define perfection as being "One journeying through life... being their best, learning their lessons, enjoying the experience, and enhancing the experience of others", than many more of us would be considered perfect, as we are.

Even those that seem to be "fallen" right now are mastering or learning whatever it is they are caught up in.  There are no mistakes in this universe as the Divine Creator/God/Source has made it.  There is value to everything that everyone goes through.  Some of our biggest growth comes from our darkest periods.  So don't have pity for them.  Have heart-felt compassion for suffering and honor it, love it by looking at the unique opportunities it has given you to help others who suffer that way.  When ones you love are suffering, let them know you love them. Feeling your love can be a huge bridge for them through the strife.  Don't care take them and protect them from it or they may just have to learn the lesson another way.  It can keep coming harder and harder until they are faced with so much pain they must finally shift their beliefs and grow.

To all of my perfect sisters and brothers. Congrats on getting to where you are now and thanks for being you.  Lets make it fun and enjoy the experiences together.  We all are going through some hard times.  Let's be open about it and be real.  It makes it much more enjoyable in my opinion...

Love!

Off to a Great Start!

Posted on Jan 24th, 2009 by dani : explorer - love, life, truth dani

Off to a Great Start

How do you usually start your day? Are you the type to take the least amount of time possible and rush out the door? Are you the type that likes to wake up early and go for a run? We all have our own preferences.
Are you living your mornings in your ideal way?

Starting your day well helps to have a better day, all day. Beginning with a few morning rituals can create a whole different energy for your day. If you make yourself a priority and take time to replenish, cleanse, nourish, and fuel your body, you can feel much more connected and open to the flow of your day.

When you are grounded in the fresh energy of the morning with a connection and openness, the world becomes your oyster. You can find the hidden treasures available to you throughout your day more often than when you have rushed out the door. When you’ve taken care of yourself, you naturally have a better attitude and bring a different energy to all you do. When you truly feel on it, you carry a magical essence that inspires others and creates great changes.

Play with different routines in the morning to find what makes you feel best. My favorites are taking a bath, walking or running, listening to the birds, exercising, praying, and/or writing. Try whatever activities help you to feel connected spiritually and to deeper parts of yourself. Create a rejuvenating space that allows you to tap into your energy source and receive. Give yourself an extra twenty minutes in the morning for “you-time”.

Make sure you eat a nourishing breakfast by 10. Also, enjoy your “treats” (in balance) such as having a tea or coffee while you settle in and check your messages. Little perks like this can really help you to enjoy your day. Remember that some relationships also make you feel good – enjoy those in balance, as well. Take time to say good morning to someone you enjoy.

A great way to give back to others is to share anything you’ve learned or realized or to express emotions that arise in your morning routine. Some write, some sing, others talk. So share in whatever way you enjoy, if you feel the desire to. Sometimes the smallest thing you share can affect the whole day (or life!) of another person who needed to hear exactly what you felt like saying. So share with those you love!

Start tomorrow morning with checking in. Listen to the voice you use while talking to yourself in the morning - the silent voice that talks to you in your head at any given moment. Does it sound like it believes in you and knows of the infinite possibilities that lie within your day ahead? Or does it sound like the old voice of your parents, telling you to be “realistic” and what can’t be done?

In a funk and feeling down? Monday morning blues have you dreading another week with nothing to look forward to all week long? Longing until tomorrow for fun? Try these techniques to shift your reality:

Check in and listen to yourself. Be aware. What is getting you down? Look into your feelings and honor them first. Look at the root of them and ask why they are there? Explore them for a bit and be gently compassionate with yourself. Find a way to express these emotions. Write it out on paper and tear it up or beat up a pillow if you want.

Give thanks. Once you feel at peace with them, look toward what you are thankful for. There’s got to be something! Give thanks for the small things, beginning with having a pillow to lay your head on (and possibly punch occasionally). This awareness helps to naturally lift your spirits. Spend several moments giving thanks until you feel it emanating from your heart and a lifting and shifting of your sour mood.

Plan something exciting. Where in your life do you have the opportunity to create something that would get your adrenaline naturally moving and give you a bounce in your step? What may be hidden treasures within this ho-hum forecast? If you don’t have time right now to think of them, schedule it out for a time when you do and keep your mind open until then. Listen to the yearnings of your heart. Believe that you can have what you want. Have faith that when you try your best, you will be blissfully rewarded. What the heck? Why not? It may not end up exactly as you envision it now, and hopefully that is the case. Ideally your vision will take a whole different life on as you pursue it and see a grander picture while the right people, places, and things fall into your life to help it all come together.

Be open to today. Trust that you will make changes in your life that are satisfying, make the decision, and let it go for now. Be free to explore the day that is presented to you today. Look for the signs, hidden treasures, and opportunities within it. Be open to interactions you have – no matter how small – as what have you asked for in your most heart-felt dreams may just come to you today. Make sure your eyes are open enough to see what is right in front of your face!

Here's to *Sunshiney* Mornings for us all!

What's Up Next For Your New Year?

Posted on Dec 11th, 2008 by dani : explorer - love, life, truth dani

Have you figured out what is coming up for you in 2009 yet? Do you see the signs? Do you have the feelings? Or possibly feeling more stuck and confused than ever?

Exercise: This week/weekend take a few moments out to check in where you are at. What are the things most calling for you to grow in during the new year? What areas are ready for a step up? What areas are ready for release?

So schedule a sesh. Or better yet, take a quick break right now. Pause and reflect this week... what's your plan, man?

Grab a fresh sheet of paper and make a mess. Figure it out. And make it fun! First just let out what wants to be heard. Then try this:

Note the top three things you want to accomplish.

    1. Take something you are doing to a new level

    2. Start something totally new that you've put off

    3. Give back. Find a way most meaningful to you.

Wrap it up by picking out your top intentions. (Keep this handy for when spring comes around....)

Have a beautiful Holiday Season and Happy New Year! INjoy your exploration.

Love!

Dani

Autumn. Harvest. Space.

Autumn Daily Seed WholeBook
September 22 - December 21, 2008
Harvest.  Space.

Plants are supple with life.  Refreshing cool breezes return. Family gathers, giving thanks for the harvest. Leaves fall as mother nature clears off her branches. The fruits of our labor that we planted in spring and nurtured in summer are now ripe for the picking.

Autumn is a season of culmination, celebration, and space.  If you’ve been diligently working, you’ve brought forth a bountiful crop.  If you’ve been focused on your ideal creation, you’ve brought forth your most rewarding harvest yet.  We’ve worked so hard, it’s time to celebrate and feast. As we pause to appreciate our blessings, it’s a great time to let go of things that we are not fully appreciating to create space for more. The last days and nights of autumn are the most mystical of the year and are ideal for meditation and connecting with the deepest parts of you and the Divine.

Give thanks for the gifts you’ve been given!  Pause and congratulate yourself on all the hard work you’ve done, this cycle and throughout life.  As the leaves fall, it is an ideal time to review what fruit you’ve birthed.  Can you see anything that needs to be weeded out?  Clarify what you’re creating and adjust what you can to make it your ultimate experience.  Bask in the time of your harvest before the reflective months of winter roll in and complete the cycle.

Enjoy the culmination of your efforts and give thanks!  Celebrate and let go of what is not your ideal.

Get yours. www.ahamprema.com

Goals into Seeds.

Posted on Jun 15th, 2008 by dani : explorer - love, life, truth dani
Dsp_info_rectangle_ready_copy
Friday will be summer already! It is always amazing to me how fast time can go and how much activity can happen so quickly.

Use this last week to finish planting your seeds. You have until Thursday to get whatever it is you want to do, started. Even if you just have an Org Sesh (organization session you schedule with yourself), at least get started. Get your seeds in fertile soil to give them an opportunity to grow this cycle. In summer, you will nurture these seeds into flowers and fruit. NewScientist just announced that a 2,000 year old seed sprouted. It was finally just planted in the soil after it's original discovery in the 1960's.

The big seasonal project of spring was to redo our goals. I just reviewed mine last week and decided to type them up to hang in my bedroom and to share with others. These are some of the key ones I came up with, which I am most happy about.

Personal Goals - Spring 200

Self Development
-Daily focus of energy is creative with a clear higher purpose to be of service while allowing personal development and refinement. -Environment naturally prompts and enhances creativity. -Treasure hunt daily within and without. See signs, capture, and develop. -Abundant with energy, time, resources, and cash flow. Able to invest these into projects that I believe in. -Excellent physical shape: yoga rites, bike riding, and regular activity. -Tone, in shape, eating healthy, with great tasting recipes. -Freedom to experience the ultimate! Be open. -Writing regularly. Collect for future book. -Study: something, always. -Great understanding of and clarity in patterns. -Explore, travel. -Aware of and connected to inner power, celebrating it. -Aham Prema - Abundant, solid, thriving creative outlet. -Magical inner powerful essence. -Daily time alone, joyful, in balance.

Ayin (son) -In best care daily: learning and creative. -Solid inner love with self, balance, strong, curious, fun, connected, respectable, mutually beneficial relationships, wise, and happy. -Daily free time together: creative development. Play, crafts, etc.

Relationships -Synergistic and mutually beneficial. -Solid network of creative developers (soul cluster) who are loving, abundant, and supportive. -Fun daily in whatever I am doing. -Children: guide in a playful, full lifestyle with imagination, love, and respect. Be a role model, reminder to keep playful essence. -Be present with those around me, in the moment. -Conscious agreements in all relations.

Communion -Connection to all of me: inner child, self, higher self. -With Source: all day, even small stuff, natural. Not "extended" thinking. -Recognize signs, including pain.

In the process of reviewing and updating my goals, I laid the groundwork for identifying the seeds I want to plant. It was a great visualization tool to help me dream of where I want to go, and then take the steps to make sure these ideas are set up for growth.

Have a great week!

It's Almost Over

Posted on Jun 8th, 2008 by dani : explorer - love, life, truth dani
Remember_footer_780
(Spring that is)... already! Amazing how fast time flies and how much goes on in each day.

How did your spring go? Did you consciously choose the seeds that you planted? Or did you plant seeds that you didn't mean to - seeds that are not truly important to you?

I am the type to remain in a fog over past events...I do not have a detailed memory (something I've had a hard time dealing with in the past). So as I look over my planner, I am surprised to see how much I have done.

Let's see.. my bravo page reflects some of my favorite happenings: I totally revitalized my goals and have taken a bigger step in integrating them with my actual being. I have developed my most treasured creative projects a lot! Aham Prema of course is one of them and I am delighted with the new designs and content. Learning to design was something I wanted to do for quite a long time and I took it upon myself to figure it out! I've also come up with new ideas and projects that I will work on when some of my time is freed up. I learned new ways of organizing whatever project it is that I need to work on so that it develops in the way that I really want. I finished my Philosophy of Ethics class with an A (the most enjoyable one I've taken yet). I've enjoyed some great times with my dearest loved ones, times that even I will remember forever. I've developed new beginnings with some I hope to get to know much better. I edited a fun-to-read and enlightening book that is still in the works by a sister of mine, Marja West (www.lovebeingherenow.net). I've developed my relationship with my best friend in a way that is much more rewarding for both of us. I witnessed the amazing development of a butterfly (if you havne't yet, read about my experience on the blog http://ahamprema.blogspot.com). I developed a deeper connection than I have ever had, a solid faith naturally emanating within my heart. I even got outside and ran one day, something very unlike me. And I totally changed my eating habits after learning more about what it was I was eating. I'm now buying whole and organic foods, a sudden change that I've stuck with.

Whew! That was a lot. I also realized that I scheduled too much this time.  Although I am happy to have gotten done what I did, next season I am going to leave some more free time with less things scheduled! :). I am happy to realize this and make this a priority in summer.

I'm looking forward to a more relaxing summer and INjoying my second favorite season of the year. I love the warmth, sun, and time outdoors. I hope to have some big exciting news by the time it is over!

Want to share your experience? ...always interested in learning more about you.

Love, Dani ~~~~ "Ideas are like rabbits. You get a couple and learn how to handle them, and pretty soon you have a dozen." ~John Steinbeck
